Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, Bangkok, Thailand
Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall
The buildings along the Ratcha Damnoen Avenue are parts of Bangkok's architectural landscape and history. These blocks were built along with the construction of Ratcha Damnoen Avenue by order of King Rama V. Leading from the Dusit Royal Palace to the Grand Palace, the Ratcha Damnoen avenue was laid out in the similar design to Paris' Avenue des Champs-Elysees.
Background
The construction of the Ratcha Damnoen Avenue began in 1899, while that of the buildings along the Ratcha Damnone Klang Avenue [Klang means "middle"] began in 1937. On both sides of the avenue, 40-metre-wide strips of land were expropriated for the construction of these blocks of buildings that were designed by several architects, such as Mom Luang [a royal title] Pum Malakul andKhun [an honorific] Mio Aphaiwongse. In keeping with the King Rama V's concept, the same design concept as that for the Champs-Elysées was adopted.
With a budget of 10 million baht, 15 buildings were erected on Ratcha Damnoen Klang Avenues from 1937 to 1948 by several contractors, such as Sa-nga Wannadit Co., Ltd. and Christiani and Nielsen Co., Ltd [at the time, now a public company]. The Democracy Monument was also constructed on the avenue in 1939.

Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall
The renovation of the building and its interior decoration work began in 2008. On 9 March 2010, the exhibition was officially launched. It invites the public to learn, appreciate and take pride in Thailand's artistic and cultural legacies of the Rattanakosin Era.
The building has two storeys, not including the mezzanine and the third floor at both ends of the building which serve as the viewpoints overlooking the city. The building has 4,800 square metres of floor space. Advanced technologies - such as presentation devices, models, four-dimensional multi-media technique, multi-touch and multi-media animation technologies- are used in presenting the exhibitions about Rattanakosin City through interactive self-learning devices. The content is divided into nine topics in nine halls (In phase one of the project, only seven halls will be open to the public. All nine halls will be open to the public in 2011).
Besides the nine exhibition halls, the building also has a 300-square-meter Event Hall on the ground floor for artistic and cultural events organized by educational institutions and private agencies. The building also has a library, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop.
